Liberation Day at the Dutch Centre

The World Harmony Orchestra was invited by the Dutch Centre to present a programme of hope and reflection about World War II on Dutch liberation day (5 May 2017).

We had the honour of playing pieces by composers affected by humanitarian conflicts in the past and present:

Dutch composers Henriette Bosmans ('March of the Dead') and Jan Van Gilse ('Concert Overture') both victims of World War II, as well as refugee composer Arian ('Migrants' and 'Searching for Peace') who had to flee the current war in Syria.

We also performed Mozart's 40th symphony and two famous pieces by pacifist composers: Fratres by Arvo Part and 'Sentimental Saraband' by Benjamin Britten. Dutch pianist Cyrill Ibrahim, co-founder of WHO, joined the orchestra for two pieces and played a Chopin Prelude.
