One Day Without Us

February 20, 2017

"Musical Migrations" were two concerts we performed on Monday 20th February as part of 'One Day Without Us', a UK National Protest and initiative that aims to raise awareness about the important contribution of immigrants to London and the UK. It also coincided with a national day of action against xenophobia where people stood in solidarity with immigrants and refugees from all over the world.

We were proud to be hosted by two historic and symbolic venues:

A lunchtime concert at the Wiener Library for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide

And an evening concert at the Museum of Immigration and Diversity, 19 Princelet Street

The programme showcased pieces by migrant and refugee composers who have enriched British society over the centuries including J.C. Bach, Handel, Gounod, Gal, Panufnik and Malan, as well as pieces by Brahms, Chopin and Coleridge-Taylor. We were also joined by members of the Refugee Choir from Islington Centre for Refugees and Migrants.
It was deeply important for us to reflect on the value of diversity and celebrate the multicultural vibrancy of London.
